The government's plan to construct a
71-km-long Outer Ring Road encircling
existing ring road around the foothills
of the Kathmandu Valley should be an
impetus to the housing industry in Nepal
if properly planned. NLHDA recognizes it
should provide us with a chance to
implement planned housing. In order to
have a professional perspective and
therefore a better planning for housing
sector development in and around the
area of the Outer Ring Road, our
proposal to the government is to work in
liaison with us. We believe private
sector housing developers like us are
certainly a positive factor.
Our suggestion should be to keep the
settlements along the radial roads,
rather than along the ring road, which
should have only certain entry/exit
points, stopping and parking points with
fixed and regulated speed for traffic.
Settlements along ring road will create
problems in managing traffic and
regulating speed.
Confined and built-up settlements should
be promoted, as uncontrolled
urbanization will cause haphazard
disposal of sewerage, solid waste; thus
causing difficulty in water supply
system and high cost in providing basic
services to the citizens. |
